The most absurd Hairstyles Fact 26

In the 17th and the 18th century, ladies liked 'big' hair. The bigger the better. The fashion was for incredibly elaborate hairstyles and wigs. Women's hair was starched and combed over pads made of horsehair or frames until it was very tall! It was then powdered to give it a white finish and be decorated. Some ladies added birdcages in which they put real birds, others added miniature castles or tiny ships to recreate famous battles!

These hairstyles took so long to create, that the ladies would keep their 'dos' for weeks - without washing them in between. As a result their hair became ideal nests for fleas, head lice and other vermin.
